When you start building your website, the first thing most people do is probably get a layout for their site.

When it comes to getting a layout/template, do you use pre-made ones that you can download for free from the internet, or do you get a unique layout (you code it yourself or somebody codes it for you)?

I can code HTML and PHP, but I am horrible when it comes to design and graphics, so I usually get a pre-made template and customize it myself.

Generally, I try to find a template and start from there. Only when I need to, I start from scratch. I think this is the practical approach.

There are also tools on the web that will generate a layout for you according to the parameters you input.

I think the best thing to do is to customize. Your site needs to be "memorable" or your guests will never return.

Like the poster above, I usually start with a pre-made template and customize it over time to fit my needs.
